Sharp Silhouette

COSMIC MESSAGE

The Sun is 93 million miles away, but with proper equipment, it can be used to create dramatic images. This telescopic view, taken on September 17, captures the silhouette of Space Shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station. Atlantis had just undocked and was 550 kilometers from the observer in France, creating a sharp outline against the Sun's disk.
