Light from the Heart Nebula

NASA APOD · Matt Russell
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, glows red with hydrogen, shaped by the stars within it. This close-up shows a cluster of massive, hot stars, some nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun. These stars emit radiation and stellar winds that sculpt the surrounding gas and dust. The nebula sits about 7,500 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia.
