NASA APOD · Robert Gendler (robgendlerastropixs.com)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is the closest major galaxy to our Milky Way. It is a spiral galaxy, much like our own, and together they dominate the Local Group of galaxies. The diffuse light in the image comes from hundreds of billions of stars, while the distinct stars around it are actually foreground stars in our own galaxy.
