Ghostlike spokes are visible in Saturn's rings in this image. These mysterious features were first discovered by the Voyager spacecraft in the early 1980s. Their existence was unexpected, and scientists still do not have a universally accepted explanation for their formation. The Cassini spacecraft, now orbiting Saturn, initially did not observe them, but later analyses of Voyager images provided new insights.
