Jet Approaching a Crescent Moon

NASA APOD · Vincent Jacques
COSMIC MESSAGE

A jet airplane, leaving a contrail, crosses in front of a crescent moon. The contrail glows orange because the setting sun's light is scattered by the air, leaving only the red and orange hues to reflect off the contrail. This alignment of Earth, Moon, and contrail creates a striking image.
