Wisps of the Iris Nebula
NASA APOD · Thomas V. Davis
COSMIC MESSAGE
These clouds of interstellar dust and gas, sometimes called the Iris Nebula, NGC 7023, have blossomed 1,300 light-years away in Cepheus. This image shows the nebula's range of colors and symmetries. Within the Iris, dusty nebular material surrounds a massive, hot, young star. The star's light illuminates the surrounding dust, creating the nebula's glowing appearance.
