Eris: More Massive than Pluto
NASA APOD · Thierry Lombry
COSMIC MESSAGE
Eris, a dwarf planet orbiting the Sun at twice Pluto's distance, is about 27 percent more massive than Pluto. Its mass was calculated by timing the orbit of its moon, Dysnomia. Images from the Keck telescope and Hubble Space Telescope revealed Dysnomia's nearly circular, 16-day orbit.
