COSMIC MESSAGE
The Dawn spacecraft began its journey to the asteroid belt on a Delta II rocket. It will use an innovative ion propulsion system, converting solar power to electricity to ionize xenon atoms. This generates a gentle but continuous thrust, propelling Dawn to its distant targets, Vesta and Ceres.
