The Boomerang Nebula is a symmetric cloud of gas and dust, created by a high-speed wind from a dying central star. This rapid expansion has cooled the nebular gas to just one degree above absolute zero, making it the coldest known region in the distant universe. The nebula shines by reflected light from its central star.
