Sun Halo over Sweden

Sometimes the Sun appears to be viewed through a giant lens, but it is actually millions of tiny ice crystals. Water freezes in the atmosphere into small, flat, six-sided crystals. As these crystals flutter to the ground, they often align with their faces flat and parallel to the ground. An observer in the same plane as many falling ice crystals, near sunrise or sunset, can see this effect, like this halo over Sweden.
