COSMIC MESSAGE
The MESSENGER spacecraft, launched in 2004, made its first flyby of Mercury in 2008. This was only the second time in history a spacecraft had visited the planet. Mariner 10 was the first, over 30 years earlier, and it only mapped part of the surface. MESSENGER's mission was to map the entire planet.
