NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 2770 is a spiral galaxy that has been unusually active in producing supernovae, the powerful explosions marking the death of massive stars. This image shows two still-bright supernovae and the location of a third, which has since faded, within the galaxy. Typically, an average spiral galaxy might see only one supernova per century, making NGC 2770 a supernova factory.
