COSMIC MESSAGE
Dark shapes with bright edges, tens of light-years long, wing their way through dusty NGC 6188. This emission nebula is near the edge of a dark molecular cloud in the southern constellation Ara, about 4,000 light-years away. Massive young stars, formed only a few million years ago, sculpt these fantastic shapes. Their stellar winds and intense ultraviolet radiation power the nebula's glow.
