The Eagle Rises

This stereo view was created from two photographs taken by astronaut Michael Collins during the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. It shows the lunar module ascent stage, named The Eagle, as it rises to meet the command module in lunar orbit. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, the first humans to walk on the Moon, were aboard the ascent stage. The smooth, dark area on the lunar surface is Mare Smythii.
