W5: Pillars of Star Creation

COSMIC MESSAGE
Stars forming in the W5 region, observed by the Spitzer Space Telescope. Older, massive stars near the center of empty cavities appear to trigger the formation of younger stars at the edges. This process happens when hot gas from older stars compresses cooler gas into dense knots, which then contract to form new stars.
