This eruptive solar prominence lifted away from the Sun's surface on September 29, unfurling into space over several hours. The hot plasma structure, many times the size of Earth, is suspended in twisted magnetic fields. The STEREO (Ahead) spacecraft captured this view in extreme ultraviolet light, which is emitted by ionized Helium. This element was first identified in the solar spectrum.
