COSMIC MESSAGE
The center of the Lagoon Nebula is a region of intense star formation. Two funnel-shaped clouds, each about half a light-year long, were carved out by stellar winds and intense starlight. The nearby star Herschel 36 illuminates the area. Walls of dust hide and redden other hot, young stars as their energy heats the surrounding gas and dust.
