COSMIC MESSAGE
This past weekend, the Moon appeared larger than it will at any other time in 2009. This happens when the Moon is unusually close to Earth during its full phase. The Moon's orbit around Earth is elliptical, so its apparent size changes depending on its distance. While visually striking, the difference in size was about 15 percent.
