Arches Across an Arctic Sky

NASA APOD · Giulio Cobianchi
COSMIC MESSAGE

Two giant arches span the sky. The more familiar one, on the left, is the central band of our Milky Way Galaxy, appearing to encircle much of the southern sky. Below it are Mars and the Andromeda galaxy. The second arch, on the right, is an aurora, much closer than the stars and galaxies.
