Earthgrazer: The Great Daylight Fireball of 1972

NASA APOD · James M. Baker
COSMIC MESSAGE

In 1972, a bright earthgrazing meteor was seen bouncing off Earth's atmosphere. Like a skipping stone, it rebounded after entering the upper atmosphere. This impressive event lasted several seconds and was visible in daylight, from Utah to Alberta. The fireball was photographed streaking above the Teton mountains, behind Jackson Lake, Wyoming.
