COSMIC MESSAGE
The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is our closest major galactic neighbor. It is a spiral galaxy much like our own Milky Way, containing hundreds of billions of stars. The individual stars seen around Andromeda in this image are actually much closer, belonging to our own galaxy. Together, the Milky Way and Andromeda dominate the Local Group of galaxies.
