The Space Shuttle Atlantis sat on Launch Pad 39A, ready for its mission to space. This image, taken before dawn, shows the orbiter attached to its fuel tank and rocket boosters. The Fixed Service Structure, over 100 meters tall with its lightning rod, stands beside it. The shuttle embarked on an ambitious mission shortly after this photo was taken.
