SNR 0104: An Unusual Suspect
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
This unusual supernova remnant, SNR 0104, is in the Small Magellanic Cloud, 190,000 light-years away. It is likely the debris from a Type 1a supernova, a white dwarf star that exploded. We know this because it contains large amounts of iron, similar to other Type 1a remnants like Tycho and Kepler. However, its strange shape makes it an outlier.
