Pyrenees Paraselene

NASA APOD · Patrick Lécureuil
COSMIC MESSAGE

From the Pic du Midi Observatory in the French Pyrenees, a sea of clouds meets rugged mountain peaks. This time exposure captures the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpius in the starry night. High in the cirrus clouds, a faint but colorful moondog, or paraselene, glows, created by moonlight shining through ice crystals.
