Even with a bright moon, the annual Perseid meteor shower still put on a show. This image, taken in the Alborz Mountains of Iran, shows a Perseid meteor streaking across the sky. The moon, in its last quarter phase, illuminated the dramatic desert landscape. It rose around midnight on August 13, after the shower's peak.
