Ancient Layered Hills on Mars

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image from Mars shows ancient layered hills and wind-blown sand in Schiaparelli Crater, spanning about three kilometers. The layers of sediment could have been deposited by running water or wind-blown sand in ancient epochs. Winds and sandstorms have since smoothed and eroded the landscape.
