The Gum Nebula Supernova Remnant

NASA APOD · Victor Lima
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Gum Nebula is the closest supernova remnant, but it is hard to see because it is so large and faint. Spanning 40 degrees across the sky, it is highlighted in red emission in this wide-angle photograph. Also visible are the Atacama Desert in Chile and the Carina Nebula.
