NASA APOD · Reddened light
COSMIC MESSAGE

Reddened light from the setting Sun illuminates snowy terrain in this image. A remarkable pillar of light, known as a Sun pillar, connects the clouds with the mountains below. This luminous column is produced by sunlight reflecting from flat, six-sided ice crystals high in the cold atmosphere.
