Spiral Galaxy NGC 3190 Almost Sideways

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Some spiral galaxies, like NGC 3190, are seen almost sideways. It is the largest member of the Hickson 44 Group, one of the nearer galaxy groups to our own Local Group. Finely textured dust lanes surround the brightly glowing center of this picturesque spiral. Gravitational tidal interactions with other group members have likely caused its spiral arms to appear asymmetric and its galactic disk to warp.
