This image shows a twisted meteor trail over Tenerife. Meteors, typically sand-sized grains originating from comets, usually disintegrate upon entering Earth's atmosphere. As they move quickly, they ionize atmospheric molecules, which then glow when they reacquire electrons. Meteor paths that twist noticeably have been observed and photographed before.
