NGC 4911: Spiral Diving into a Dense Cluster

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 4911, a spiral galaxy, is being pulled apart as it falls into the enormous Coma Cluster of Galaxies. This deep image from the Hubble Space Telescope reveals faint rings around NGC 4911, likely caused by gravitational interactions with its neighbors. If it follows the path of other galaxies in the cluster, it will eventually lose its outer layers, dust, gas, and surrounding satellite galaxies, becoming a yellowish elliptical. This process is just beginning.
