Oklo: Ancient African Nuclear Reactors

NASA APOD · Robert D. Loss (Curtin U.)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The remnants of nuclear reactors nearly two billion years old were found in the 1970s in Oklo, Gabon. These reactors occurred naturally. No natural reactors exist today because the density of fissile uranium has decayed. Uranium oxide remains are visible as the yellowish rock in Fossil Reactor 15.
