Star Streams and the Sunflower Galaxy

NASA APOD · R Jay GaBany
COSMIC MESSAGE

Messier 63, also known as the Sunflower Galaxy, is a bright spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici, 25 million light-years away. It is nearly 100,000 light-years across, similar in size to our own Milky Way. This deep exposure reveals a bright yellowish core and sweeping blue spiral arms, dotted with pink star-forming regions. The image also hints at faint star streams, evidence of past galactic interactions.
