Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth

NASA APOD · CNES
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image, taken from the Mir space station, shows the Earth during a solar eclipse. The Moon's shadow darkens a portion of the planet, moving at nearly 2,000 kilometers per hour. Only observers directly under the center of this shadow experience a total solar eclipse. The two bright spots in the image are reflections of the Sun off the station's solar panels.
