This dramatic image, from the Hubble Legacy Archive, shows its central region, spanning about 50,000 light-years. The galaxy has multiple, patchy, irregular spiral arms, unlike many other spirals with grand, sweeping arms. These arms are laced with dust and clusters of young, blue stars.
