Phobos' South Pole from Mars Express

NASA APOD · ESA/DLR/FU Berlin (G. Neukum)
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows Phobos, Mars's closest moon. Phobos is so near Mars that it is expected to break up and crash into the Red Planet within the next 100 million years. ESA's Mars Express mission took these detailed images of the area around Phobos's South Pole. Visible on the small moon's dark surface are many circular craters, long chains of craters, and strange streaks.
