Night and Day above Almost Planet Sounio

NASA APOD · Chris Kotsiopoulos
COSMIC MESSAGE

This remarkable 24-hour mosaic was taken from Sounio, Greece, on Earth. The top half of the picture shows night images, with star trails lasting up to 11 hours. The bottom half shows day images, with the Sun captured every 15 minutes. The center of the image uses a wide-angle projection, showing the ground but also the curved horizon, making it look like a tiny planet.
