NGC 2174: Stars Versus Mountains

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

In NGC 2174, massive, newly formed stars are evaporating the gas and dust clouds where they were born. These clouds, which look like mountains in the image, are actually very thin. The energetic light and winds from the young stars are dispersing these stellar nurseries. This region is in the constellation Orion, a lesser-known sight.
