Sideways Galaxy NGC 3628

COSMIC MESSAGE

Dark dust lanes cut across the middle of NGC 3628, a spiral galaxy seen edge-on. This galaxy is about 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo. NGC 3628 is part of the Leo Triplet, but it is the only member not in Charles Messier's catalog. Its disk is similar in size to the Milky Way and fans out near the edges.
