Peculiar Galaxies of Arp 273
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The foreground of this image shows spiky stars from our Milky Way Galaxy. Beyond them, 300 million light-years away, are the peculiar galaxies of Arp 273, also known as UGC 1810. Their distorted shapes are due to gravitational interactions during close encounters. Interacting galaxies are common in the universe, including our own Andromeda Galaxy.
