Comet Between Fireworks and Lightning

COSMIC MESSAGE

Sometimes the sky provides the best show. In January 2007, people in Perth, Australia, gathered on a beach to watch Comet McNaught, visible through clouds near the image center. Fireworks exploded nearby for Australia Day celebrations, and lightning from a distant thunderstorm flashed on the far right. The comet was so bright it remained visible despite the surrounding light.
