Io: The Prometheus Plume

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Jupiter's moon Io is the most volcanically active world in the solar system. This image from the Galileo spacecraft shows two eruptions, Pillan Patera and Prometheus, spewing sulfurous material high above the surface. Io's intense volcanic activity is a result of tidal heating from Jupiter's immense gravitational pull.
