COSMIC MESSAGE
During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth passes between the Moon and the Sun, causing the Moon to dim significantly. The Moon never goes completely dark because Earth's atmosphere refracts some sunlight onto its surface. This time-lapse video from Tajikistan captured the dramatic fading of the full Moon during such an event.
