The Mars rover Opportunity discovered a metallic rock on Meridiani Planum in 2005, near its discarded heat shield. The rock, visible on the lower left, is made mostly of dense metals like iron and nickel. The cone-shaped object behind it is part of Opportunity's jettisoned heat shield.
