NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The central star of the Hourglass Nebula, MyCn18, is nearing the end of its life. Its nuclear fuel is exhausted, and its outer layers are being ejected. This forms the spectacular hourglass shape, with the core becoming a white dwarf. In 1995, the Hubble Space Telescope captured this image, showing delicate rings of colorful glowing gas.
