The Hydra Cluster of Galaxies

NASA APOD · Angus Lau
COSMIC MESSAGE

Two stars from our own Milky Way galaxy are in the foreground of this image. Beyond them lies the Hydra Cluster, over 100 million light-years away. The cluster is dominated by three large galaxies: two yellow ellipticals, NGC 3311 and NGC 3309, and one prominent blue spiral, NGC 3312. Each of these main galaxies is about 150,000 light-years in diameter.
