COSMIC MESSAGE
VdB 1 is the first entry in the van den Bergh Catalog of reflection nebulae. These cosmic clouds are interstellar dust reflecting light from nearby stars. The nebulae usually appear blue because dust grains scatter shorter, bluer wavelengths more effectively, a process similar to what makes Earth's sky blue.
