Merging NGC 2623

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 2623 is a pair of galaxies in the final stages of merging, located 300 million light-years away in the constellation Cancer. This violent collision, likely between two galaxies similar to our own, has triggered widespread star formation. The merger has also pulled out long tidal tails of dust, gas, and young star clusters, extending tens of thousands of light-years from the central region.
