A Halo for NGC 6164

COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 6164 is an emission nebula created by a rare, hot, luminous O-type star. The star, 40 times the mass of the Sun, sits at the center of the cosmic cloud and is only 3 to 4 million years old. In a few million more years, it will explode as a supernova. The nebula spans about 4 light-years and has a bipolar symmetry.
