Dark clouds of interstellar dust sprawl across star fields toward the center of our Milky Way. Cataloged by astronomer E. E. Barnard, these obscuring clouds form the Pipe Nebula. Its shape suggests a pipe stem and bowl, seen in silhouette against the starry background.
